Grainy Trinitite Bubbly
Trinity Nuclear Site, Tularosa Basin, Alamagordo, New Mexico
Trinitite is the name given to the byproduct of the first atomic bomb test in New Mexico. The blast turned the ground below it into a melted mixture of silica, feldspar and peridot. The only collecting of this material was in the 50’s, as it was burried over shortly after. Today, the location is closed to the public and collecting material is illegal, besides the fact that it is under several tons of dirt.
